2024-JAN-18 | Münster – MedNet has successfully renewed its certificate as a climate-neutral company through Climate Extender, a facilitator for sustainable climate protection activities. In order to achieve climate neutrality, internal measures are taken to reduce CO2 emissions and the amount that cannot be reduced is offset, and the project team had already identified several areas for improvement. In the past, for example, MedNet has switched to providers that use green electricity, purchased climate-neutral equipment and offered job bikes and home office days. Through the use of home office days by employees, MedNet saved over 30 tons of emissions in the assessment period compared to the previous year. The goal for the coming year is to invest in climate-neutral transportation in order to further offset the emissions from freight transport. In order to compensate for the emissions caused, MedNet has decided to support four climate protection projects that are based on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. These include the protection of biodiversity in the Amazon region, a run-of-river power plant in Peru, a solar power plant in India and a project to convert poultry litter into renewable electricity.Dr. Flotho-Westrup, RA manager and project leader, explained why MedNet chose these specific projects: "They serve to protect the climate, but above all they help to support the local economy and improve the living conditions of local people."
